Ohio Bruins open OBA season with 33 point victory!

The defending OBA League champion Ohio Bruins kicked off the 2022 season in a big way this weekend by defeating the Cleveland Blazers 108-75. One of the biggest story lines heading into the game was that Sherman Dean made his return to Columbus to face his former team. Sherman hit a buzzer beater in Orlando, Florida with the Ohio Bruins last season which helped the Bruins become the first ever OBA league champions. Bruins defenders proudly took the chance to defend Dean, spearheaded by team Captain Jay Farrow. They held the former Bruin to 3 of 7 from field, with 2 shots not making it to the rim and 9 pts.

The game was a back and forth battle for most of the first quarter as both teams traded punches. The Ohio Bruins sideline helped get the team going early in the 2nd quarter. The Bruins bench featured several new faces alongside new Head Coach Christopher Anthony Sr. The team settled down and began playing Bruin basketball and took a 58-39 lead into half time. The second half was not much different as the Bruins never surrendered the lead.

Jay Farrow was an all star selection last season and he continued to prove why he is one of the best players in the country. Jay finished with 25 points (61% FG), 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Jay was able to score at will from all levels of the floor and was a menace on the defensive end.

1st Round Draft pick Phil Bledsoe left his mark early against the Blazers. Phil put up 19 points ( 75%), 8 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Gary Hoover was also an all star selection and an OBA league MVP runner up last season picked up right where he left off with 18 points (51%), 13 rebounds, and 2 assists. Gary was explosive at the rim hammering dunk after dunk.

Bruins newcomers Andy Bosley and Kenny Council made their OBA debuts with 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists (Bosley) and 9 points, 4 rebounds, and three assists (Council).

The Bruins are set to resume action against the Louisville G.O.C on Saturday, April 23rd at 5:00PM at Northside Christian School located at 2655 W Schrock Rd Westerville, OH 43081.
